This wonderful lovely always polite child was the model patient today at the pediatricians. Let me tell ya. Oy.
It was Ryan's "well" visit. He is 38 1/2 inches, 33 pounds. Good stuff. Up to 25th percentile for weight and something middling for height. Wait...they gave me a sheet, I can give the exact statistics! Yes, 33 pounds at 25th percentile and 38.6 inches tall at 16% percentile. Good growing my boy!
During the whole exam Zoe did a very good job of sitting, doing some workbook pages and generally only commenting when it made sense.
Until.
Our doctor started to talk about vaccines. We had to discuss availability [no seasonal, a handful of H1N1 doses], what form Zoe could have [nasal? generally not recommended in asthmatics but she has been symptom free of asthma for a few years and perhaps the nasal dose is better then none?] and a few other details. Zo listened with one ear and ignored us until the nurse came in with the needles.......
And all hell broke loose.
She started screaming that she didn't want a shot, no one could make her. Upsetting the little man who previously didn't care at all. The nurse asked me to hold Ry first and he took the shot like a champ but then crumbled into a pathetic ball of goo [no nap, still under the weather from weekend tummy bug.] Meanwhile Zoe is still LOUDLY protesting. Mind you we are in the last exam room of a long hallway. The nurse was having trouble not laughing and so were the nurses at the nurses station in the middle of the office.
Why? Why are the nurses laughing? Because of what the girl was screaming.
"Nooooo! No THANK YOU!"
Over and over again. As we walked out the nurses explained that she was the most polite vaccine protester they have ever had.
UPDATE: I forgot to mention one detail that Grammie Sue thought was funny. After the shots, I offered the kids an ice cream. My thought was 2:30pm, 65 degrees, sunny, near a playground and ice cream shop. What would be nicer then ice cream then play? Ryan sobbed at the thought. "I just want to go hooooommmmmmmme" Zoe started fussing, "Why does he always ruin everything?" Ugh. Double ughs.
Lightbulb moment! Anderson's has a DRIVE-THRU!!!! Best of both world. Zoe got her ice cream, Ryan got to stay in the car and go home. Once at home I was able to send the kids out to play in the driveway. Close enough.
Oy.
